New Jersey Tea Plant (Ceonothus americanus)
I’ve been trying to get this in the nursery forever.
Native, small shrub with fragrant, showy white flowers.
Known by herbalists as Red Root, the root bark is commonly used in traditional medicine to treat respiratory illness and stimulate the lymphatic system.
Dried leaves were used as a tea substitute, albeit without caffeine, in American Revolutionary War times, hence the common name.
Sun to part shade
